1 question. can you have a mac os x type global menu. Where “pear os 7″ is on the menu can you put options like.

    -about this mac
    – software update
    – and other things that the mac os x menu has.

Also can you add cairo dock to the system!

How do i uninstall docky and replace with cairo dock. p.s when i boot with cairo i get no menu and weird black boxs

edit: solved black boxs cant get menu!

Pear 4 was exactly like that but all changed in the next releases :(

Cairo wouldn’t be that great in this distro, is not lightweight and require a minimal of graphics card and for some people that might not be good because the OS might not find the drivers on the first use and that could be a disastet.

Pear 7 come with Plank and not Docky. David integrated the dock in the Desktop so remove/purge Plank would damage in some way and wouldn’t be able to load the Desktop again (all that can be changed if he decide to).

Black boxes are signal that the drivers installed are not supporting GLX and Compiz features. You can blacklist the actual drivers, remove them and install the nvidia/ati drivers the way you want (from the website or synaptic/appstore)

we want kernel 3.8 not old linux kernel ..we wnat it more like windows 8 not like other badass os!

          • TheRedLensman

It’s be nice to have the latest kernel – but 3.5 isn’t that old!

And Windows 8……? Why – in the names of the gods, why…….? It’s more ‘smartphone’ than anything usable….. and Pear’s just getting to the point where I’m not having any problems with it….

          • http://www.facebook.com/ProLifeBrian Brian Alexander

Not to be rude or anything, but maybe you should use windows8… You could also use Ubuntu with Gnome3 – I’ve found G3 to be nearly as annoying

            No, just no!

im with you win 8 or any win* is for the birds. if anyone wants it go get it! but dont complain when it causes you more problems than its worth. i being a win tech for 15 yrs. i am just learning linux base ans i find it to be the most flexable and user friendly. also pear os so far ive found to be the easiest and user friendly so far. i have installed and played with aprox 10 distro’s so far. im liken it.:]

PLEASE WE WANT LATEST LINUX kernel 3.8 please not very very old kernel 3.5!..comeone we need latest kernel

          • pearlinux

Kernel 3.8 will be available for Pear OS 7.

          • http://tranceworldnow.wordpress.com/ Robert Trance

3.5-series kernel is not old, and numbering kernel doesn’t mean that definitely better too. Also the 3.0, 3.2, 3.4 families get still updated from time to time, and 3.5.xx is a fast and stable base for example for a distro like Ubuntu 12.04.2 (LTS’ latest upgraded version). Btw, let’s wait till they fix everything in 3.8, until that 3.7.9 is fine too, like stated in Pear News

  • http://www.facebook.com/brig.denholm Brig Denholm

Pear 5 was lightning fast, 6 did not seem as fast to me, nor did the previous 7, but JOYFULLY, this 7 has returned to the lightning speed I have learned to know and love of the Pear

  • montee

Oh dear another gnome 3 /ubuntu-based distro where the black horizontal bar at the top cannot be moved or hidden…i know a lot of people find that annoying; i certainly do which is one of the reasons i don’t like gnome….any chance that something can be done about this before the final release?

  • disqus_b3xgtezKiD

Hello there, I am downloading it right now! been waiting for the release :)

I want to ask if i could upload it on “pirate bay” people might

Hi there! I’ve been using Pear OS 7 for a week already, till now no problems or bugs… Are you sure this is “just” a pre-release? When is the final release of Pear OS?

  • http://www.facebook.com/CarlosBaptista401 Carlos Baptista

By the way… I wanted to donate for the Pear project but it seems there’s a problem with paypal…

    • pearlinux

      It’s now resolved…thanks

  • Faheem Ahmed

where is linux kernel 3.8…it is using very old kernel

    • http://tranceworldnow.wordpress.com/ Robert Trance

3.5 kernel is not old, but one of the latest stable and for longlife use. 3.8 meant for shorter term use and have to issue some serious security problems

  • http://www.facebook.com/ProLifeBrian Brian Alexander

    • pearlinux

Yes it support LVM like ubuntu 12.10

  • DennisRemillard

David, this release is hard for me to call it alpha. It runs well on my Asus G73 beast! Keep up the great work!
